Thessaloniki

Thessaloniki

Thessaloniki is the second biggest city of Greece. It is important transport nodal point, tourist and culture center of the country and the region. It has nice warm climate and plenty of architectural, archaeological and natural sights.

Climate Thessaloniki by Season

The city is situated in the zone of Mediterranean climate with hot summers, mild winters and moderate precipitation. Spring begins with cooler weather and averages of 15 °C (59 °F) at afternoons and 4 °C (39 °F) at nights, but by the end of the season days are much warmer with range of temperatures between 26 °C (79 °F) and 12 °C (53 °F) respectively. During hot and dry summers temperature may rise 31 °C (88 °F) or slightly above at afternoon, but nights will bring fresh air with 18 °C (64 °F) of temperature.

In autumn temperatures are going down unlike amount of rains. Gradual reduction of temperature brings daily averages of 29-14 °C (84-57 °F) down to 16-6 °C (61-43 °F) by the end of the season. In the middle of winter daily temperature is hovering between 10 °C (50 °F) and 2 °C (35 °F). Snow and frosts are extremely rare and never last longer than couple of days or even hours.

Thasos

Thasos

Resorts island is situated in northern part of the Aegean Sea in 12 km (7.4 mi.) from coasts of inland Greece. It is peaceful place with slopes of mountains covered by pines, olive trees and chestnut trees. It suits better for family vacations for there are not many night clubs or establishments of this kind. But woods and beaches are great.

Pieria is one of the regions of northern inland Greece. It has fabulous concentration of historical sites and resorts. The Olympus itself is located in this region. Also, there is wide variety of other activities including skiing and ecological tourism. Weather averages given below are fair for plain part of the region.

Pieria is the mountainous region, so it has variable weather conditions depending on the altitude of given location. In general there is mild Mediterranean climate typical for northern Greece. Spring comes with gradual warming from winter chilly weather. Each day is warmer than previous and eventually daily range grows from 15-6 °C (59-43 °F) to 25-14 °C (77-57 °F). Coastal regions of Pieria have hot summers with rare rains and averages of 34-20 °C (93-68 °F).

Autumn is another shoulder season that brings slow and steady cooling and slight growth of rain. Daytime average temperature reduces from 29 °C (84 °F) to 17 °C (62 °F). In winter days are cooler, but actual frosts and snowfalls occur only on mountains. Averages for whole season are between 12 °C (53 °F) at afternoon and 3 °C (37 °F) at night.

Paralia (Katerini)

One of the most famous tourist destinations in northern Greece is Katerini. Paralia is the seaside resort settlement included in it. It is situated in 68 km (42.2 mi.) from Thessaloniki on coast of the Aegean Sea. There are numerous sites of great historical interest around the city and developed infrastructure.

Corfu is the north most located and the second biggest of the Ionian Islands. Kassandra, Chalkidiki

Rhodes

Rhodes is the fourth largest island of Greece and the biggest among Dodecanese Islands. It is situated in south-eastern part of the Aegean Sea. Heraklion (Crete)

Afternoon averages are decreasing from 30 °C (86 °F) in September to 21 °C (70 °F) in November. Winter is the rainiest and the coolest season with around 15 °C (59 °F) at afternoons.

Zakynthos

The third biggest of the Ionian Islands is situated near to western coast of inland Greece. The capital of the island has several ancient churches and Byzantium museum. In nearby villages locals make traditional carpets and there is Laganas beach where loggerhead turtles lay their eggs.
