Croatia is the small country on western coast of the Balkan Peninsula. There two part of the country. First is inland between Slovenia and Serbia, Hungary and Bosnia. Second is stretched along eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea. Also there are almost 1200 islands in water basin of Croatia. Only 67 among them are populated.

Northern inland part of the county has continental climate, central regions has alpine climate and weather conditions of southern and coastal portions are Mediterranean. Winters in coastal regions are mild, while mountainous regions are cool with -5 °C and inland part is coolest with averages as low as -10 °C. Summers are warm everywhere except mountainous regions.

Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik is the town in southern part of coastal Croatia. Jacques-Yves Cousteau mentioned coastal waters of Dubrovnik as the cleanest part of the Adriatic Sea. Land and weather there are marvelous too. Dubrovnik is one of the most popular tourist destinations of Croatia.

Dubrovnik Climate by Season

The town has Mediterranean climate with mild rainy winters and hot and dry summers. It differs from other Mediterranean resorts by strong winds and frequent thunders. Springtime averages re between 20 °C (68 °F) and 28 °C (82 °F). During summer afternoon heat may reach 30 °C (86 °F) or even higher, but at night air cools down to 21 °C (70 °F).

Autumn is warmer than spring by couple of degrees, but much rainier. Winter averages are above freezing, though night frosts may occur too. There is around 13 °C (55 °F) at afternoon and 7-8 °C (44-46 °F) at night. On top of it Dubrovnik is one of the sunniest of European towns.

Porec

Poreč

Porec occupies a small outlet of land of northern coast of the Croatia in the Adriatic Sea and some of the nearby inland territory. The city is interesting in terms of variety of architecture. It has touches of the Roman Empire, Goths, Byzantines, Austria-Hungary and so on.

Climate in Porec by Seasons

The resort lies in the zone of Mediterranean climate and has all features of it. Through spring and summer temperature rises from 13 °C (55 °F) to 28 °C (82 °F). Nights become warmer too with progression from 5 °C (41 °F) to 18 °C (64 °F). Precipitation is distributed over a year.

Through autumn average afternoon temperature drops to 13 °C and reaches mark of 9 °C (48 °F) in the middle of winter. Actual frosts occur exceptionally rare and only at night. Also autumn is the rainiest season of a year.

Pula

Pula

Pula is the large city situated on western side of tip of the Istrian Peninsula. The city was founded by ancient Greeks as their first colony, than it fell under reign of the Roman Empire. Many historical structures of those times are still standing in Pula. Also, Brijuni National Park is located on islands to west from the city.

Climate in Pula by Seasons

The city has pleasant Mediterraneanl type of climate with moderate summer heat and mild winter temperatures. Spring afternoons become warmer each day from 13 °C (55 °F) in March to 21 °C (70 °F) in May. During summer the air warms up to 28 °C (82 °F). Summer is the driest month of a year, but drizzly rains occur pretty often.

Autumn brings cooling from comfortable 24 °C (75 °F) to chilly 14 °C (57 °F). Reduction of temperature is accompanied by growth of precipitation. Rainfall peaks in December with 13 rainy days. Temperature falls to 10 °C (50 °F) at afternoon and 4-2 °C (39-35 °F) at night.

Rovinj

Rovinj

Rovinj is the most romantic Croatian city. It is located on the western coast of Istrian Peninsula. Its steep narrow passages with most peculiar architecture of fortified islands bear the eternity of Roman Empire, grace of the Venice and true Mediterranean charm. The city includes archipelago of 22 islands and thousands of years of history.

Climate in Rovinj by Seasons

Similar to other resorts of western Croatia Rovinj has Mediterranean climate. Seasons are pronounced there. Spring starts with daily range of temperatures between 13 °C (55 °F) and 4 °C (39 °F). In summer it grows to 28 °C (82 °F) at afternoon and 18 °C (64 °F) at night.

Autumn starts with gradual increasing of rainfall and reduction of temperatures. By the end of the season daily averages are dropping down to range of 13-7 °C (55-44 °F). November is the rainiest month with around 100 mm (3.9”) of precipitation through 10 rainy days. Winter drops daily temperatures to 10 °C (50 °F) at afternoon and 2 °C (35 °F) at night, but it is drier than autumn.

Makarska

Makarska

Makarska is the central city of the Makarska Riviera. It is located on coast of southward “tongue” of Croatia. Grooves of pines and olive trees are running down to long pebble beaches and collide with narrow streets of old city under the shade of Biokovo range. This magnificence is flooded by gentle sunlight implementing formula of perfect resort.

The city is one of the warmest in whole country. It has pronounced Mediterranean climate with hot summer and warm wet winters. Spring brings warming after chilly winter weather. Afternoon average temperature grows from 14 °C (57 °F) to 23 °C (73 °F) and nights are gradually warming from 5 °C (41 °F) to 12 °C (53 °F). March is pretty rainy, but towards summer weather becomes drier. Further warming increases daily range of temperatures to 31 °C (88 °F) and 18 °C (64 °F) in the middle of summer.

Autumn starts with greater amount of rain that will grow to the middle of winter and reduction of temperatures. Beginning of the season is pretty warm, but eventually temperature drops to 15 °C. Winter is the rainiest season of a year with monthly precipitation above 100 mm (4”). Temperature ranges from 11 °C (52 °F) at afternoons to 3 °C (37 °F) at nights throughout the season.

Vrsar

Vrsar

Another resort of western coast of the Istrian Peninsula is situated between Rovinj and Poreč near the Lim Fjord. It is small medieval city includes range of picturesque islands. Coast here consists of rocks, concrete platforms and pebble beaches. Also there is one of the world’s biggest nudist complexes on Koversada Island.

Climate in Vrsar by Seasons

Vrsar possess comfortable Mediterranean climate with moderate precipitation and mild temperatures. Through spring and summer afternoon averages are rising from 13 °C (55 °F) to 28 °C (82 °F). Naturally nights become warmer too. Progression follows from 4 °C (39 °F) in March to 18 °C (64 °F) between July and August.

Further seasonal changes of the weather result late autumn averages of 13 °C (55 °F) and 7 °C (44 °F) for days and nights respectively. Winters are chilly with daily temperature ranging between 9 °C (48 °F) and 2 °C (35 °F).
