Seasons in Serbia

Serbia is surrounded by seas yet has no coasts. Adriatic, Aegean and Black seas influence on climate of country. Features of relief such as mountains of northern portion of country affect weather conditions as well. Overall conditions are considered as a continental climate.

Serbian summer is hot and winter is long and cold. Yet highland areas are differing by softer summer and shorter and colder winters. In addition northern regions of Serbia are quite windy. Dry and cool winds are more common than warm ones.

Spring in Serbia

Beginning of spring in Serbia is quite unwelcoming time in terms of weather. At March daytime temperature reaches 10 °C (50 °F) yet at night drops down to 0 °C (32 °F). Other weather conditions are almost unpredictable. While visiting Serbia at March it is better to dedicate time to sights in towns.

April brings relatively stable warmth. Average daytime temperature is about 14 °C (57 °F). Nature begins to wake up so second half of month is better for visiting natural sights i.e. national parks and reserves. Other worthy option is one of famous wine routs.

May is almost summer. Average temperature is somewhere around 20 °C (68 °F). This is great time for outdoor tourism. Numerous parks, lakes and rivers with crystal-clear water provide great variety of activities for hiking adherents.

Summer in Serbia

As in most countries of north hemisphere summer in Serbia is a better time to pay a visit. Warm air and water provide great opportunity to spectate numerous wonders of nature i.e. earth pyramids or relict red spruces. But June is quite rainy so it’s better to take appropriate clothes.

Second month of summer is the warmest one. Average temperature is 27 °C (81 °F) with tendency to even higher. Overall weather conditions at summer are suitable for people with health issues. They might have wonderful vacation in one of mountain resorts. August provides equally great conditions for all types of tourist activities.

Autumn in Serbia

September is the Velvet season in Serbia. Comfortable 23 °C (73 °F) make best conditions for main tourist activities of country. Next month brings significant drop of temperature to 17 °C (63 °F) but main concern for visitor is frequent showers. Yet visitor of resorts with unique mineral water and therapeutic mud are still having opportunity to improve health.

November drops temperature even more to about 11 °C (52 °F). Moreover in addition to rains rises the seasonal wind called “koshava”. It can blow day and night. Experienced travelers are aware of this feature of Serbian climate so always pack some warm clothes and reliable umbrellas.

Winter in Serbia

Serbian winter is the time to visit ski resorts of Kopaonik and Brezovica. Other types of tourists’ attractions naturally aren’t available. Other than skiing visitors may pay some attention to architectural sights i.e. fortresses, castles and so on. By the way affordable prices may be considered as one of advantages of Serbia from travelers’ prospective.

Rest of winter is completely skiing season. Mild winter with average temperature between 7 and -3 °C (45 - 27 °F) and plenty snow creates almost perfect conditions for skiing. But other than that there’s almost nothing to do in Serbia during winter.
