Seasons in Dubai

Dubai is the biggest city in the United Arab Emirates. It is situated on coast of the Persian Gulf. Abu Dhabi lies on plain ground, so there are no obstacles for hot and dry desert air from Rub’ al Khali. Climate of the region is arid with extreme summer temperatures and low to absent precipitation.

Air temperature in Dubai hardly ever drops below 20 °C (68 °F) and may rise above 45 °C (113 °F). Basically there are two main seasons. Between May and October there is hot and humid weather. Rest of the year is warm with low probability of precipitation with annual amount of 94 mm (3.7”). Also, there is probability of dust storms throughout a year. In general climatic influence of the desert is modified by the sea.

Spring in Dubai

Spring is probably the best season to visit Dubai. March is the last month of a year with close to comfortable temperature. Air warms up 28 °C (82 °F) at afternoon and then cools down to 17 °C (62 °F) at night, so sweater or jacket is necessary for visiting Dubai in March. And there’s completely no need in warm clothes in April when at afternoon thermometer reads 32 °C (89 °F).

In May heat intensifies reaching daily range of 37 °C (98 °F) at afternoon and 25 °C (77 °F) at night. Long exposure of unprotected skin to the sun may result sunburn or heatstroke, so it is preferable to wait out afternoon heat in conditioned rooms or at least in a shade. Otherwise sunscreen and other precaution measures are necessary.

Summer in Dubai

Summer weather in Dubai is extreme in many ways. It is exceptionally hot and incredibly stuffy. Adults with children or health issues should consider travel to Dubai in summer. Average temperature for August is 41 °C (106 °F), but at afternoon it may increase to 45 °C (113 °F) and even higher. At night temperature decreases to 30 °C (86 °F), but such reduction of temperature bring almost no relief due to high relative air humidity.

June and July are almost equally hot except nights of June with around 26 °C. The sea warms up from 30 °C (86 °F) to 33 °C (91 °F) throughout the season. And on top of it all there is increased probability of sandstorm that can paralyze the city for couple of days. Naturally there are no signs of rain through whole season.

Autumn in Dubai

September in Dubai is as hot as June. Daily temperature ranges from 27 °C (80 °F) at night to 38 °C (100 °F) at afternoon. Only in mid-October devastating heat starts to calm down. By this time nighttime air temperature shifts to 23 °C (73 °F), but visitors should know that swimming at night is prohibited in Dubai. Days are still pretty hot with 35 °C (95 °F).

In November average daytime temperature is at 31 °C (88 °F) and it drops to 19 °C (66 °F) at night. The sea has 27 °C (80 °F) and there is even probability of one rainy day. In general weather conditions of late autumn are considered as the best for visit Dubai.

Winter in Dubai

Winter is the time of rains in Dubai. Usually they are short and intense, though ground dries almost immediately after rain. Burning heat turns to pleasant warmth. Daytime temperature ranges between 23 °C (73 °F) and 26 °C (79 °F) and the sea is cooler only by couple of degrees. Nights are much colder with seasonal range of 14-16 °C (57-61 °F).

Also winter is the rainiest season in Dubai, at least to extent in which term “rainy” is applicable for the city. In relation to other season winter is also the windiest of them. Blowing winds are causing significant waves, so swimming in the sea is not as comfortable as it was in late autumn.
