Seasons in Pattaya

Pattaya is the city in south-eastern part of Thailand. It is famous resort city on eastern coast of the Gulf of Thailand in 165 km (102 mi.) to south-east from Bangkok. The city lies on the plateau with gentle slopes to narrow coastal plains. The sea is warm year round with range of temperatures between 28 °C (82 °F) and 30 °C (86 °F).

Climate in Pattaya is typical subequatorial with minor temperature variations and pronounced rainy season. Influence of monsoon winds is less pronounced than on islands or in other resort localities. For instance annual amount of precipitation in Pattaya is only half of it on Phuket. There is minor peak of rainy season in May-June followed by lull in July-august and major peak in September-October.

Spring in Pattaya

Spring weather in Pattaya is hot and humid. Daytime average temperature is around 33 °C (91 °F) and at night air cools down to 25-27 °C (77-80 °F). The sea has about 30 °C (86 °F), so this is not the best way to hide from afternoon heat. In addition water near the city is not the cleanest and with mentioned temperature it becomes positive environment for bacteria. The sea is much cleaner around Ko Lan Island.

May marks the beginning of rainy season and same it is minor peak of rainfall. There are around 13 rainy days in May. Air humidity grows and combines with heat to create quite uncomfortable weather, though it is more tolerable than in southern regions of the country.

Summer in Pattaya

Summer months are bit cooler and less rainy than May, but the air is more humid, so overall comfort of weather is lower. Amount of precipitation decreases lowers towards July and then grows again in August. Approximately each third day is rainy, but sun is still active for showers are fast. Probability of sunburn is high even in cloudy days.

In general summer weather in Pattaya is acceptable, but only if there is no way to schedule travel on more comfortable winter months. Also this season is completely unsuitable for family vacation as well as the city in general.

Autumn in Pattaya

Major peak of rainy season is in September and October. There is only around one week of total dry days in each of these months. Though, usually it rains at night and shower lasts for around hour, so by morning ground dries. The sea is as warm as always and relatively calm. Daily temperature average is in range of 24-31 °C (75-88 °F).

November is transitional month. Monsoon calms down day by day. Late November is the begging of dry and “cool” season. Change of temperature is minor, but at least air becomes drier, though weather is rather unpredictable during whole month.

Winter in Pattaya

Winter is the driest and most comfortable season in Pattaya. It rains exceptionally rare, so air humidity reaches comfortable level. Days are as warm as they were before, but nights are cooler than usually. After sun sets air cools down to pleasant 22 °C (71 °F). The sea cools down to 26-27 °C (≈80 °F). Overall sate of weather in winter is close to perfect, though precaution measures against active sun and other features of tropical countries are not to be neglected.
