Seasons in Latvia

It is relativity the same type of climate in Latvia. Despite the weather is stable for whole the territory much difference may be noticed between the northwest and south areas. The closer it is to Baltic Sea the warmest it is. Atlantic makes huge influence on the country’s weather. Winds mostly come from there bringing with it a lot of amount of precipitation - about 600-800 mm per year.

The main feature of Latvians climate is absence of sun days. Almost 2/3 of a year it is very cloudy here. Lack of sun can be observed even at summers, although the sunniest day is at spring.

Spring in Latvia

Spring comes to the country in the beginning of March. Although it is still cold snow melts sharp. It is rather dump and wet here. The first warm days are at the middle of April. After it is warmer and warmer day by day.

Summer in Latvia

The main feature of Baltic summer – cloudy skies are still here at the summer. Hot days are rare for Latvian summer. Never the less, due to wet air and cloudy sky it is always warm here and nights are comfortably cool.

Almost at all the territory the middle temperature is about 68°F. Mostly it is warm rains here all summer long.

Autumn in Latvia

Transition from warm weather to cold one is very long-time process for Baltic territory which is from the middle of September until the beginning of December. Temperature decreases not sharp from 50°F to 32°F day by day during all this period. Alternation of sunny and rainy days is a common occurrence for Latvia’s late fall. The first snow there is only at the end of November – beginning of December and it melts too fast so it’s always wet here at the late fall.

Winter in Latvia

Due to huge influence of Baltic Sea winter is soft here. It is not very cold here but it is still wet enough. Snowfalls can be observed from the middle of December to the beginning of March. But, never the less, snowfalls aren’t heavy and thin layers of it don’t stay for long time. Heavy snow is only in mountainous areas of the country and it stands until the end of February.
