Seasons in Texas

Texas is the second biggest state in US. It is situated in southern part of the country on border with Mexico and washed by the Gulf of Mexico from south east. Plains and uplands form majority of relief of Texas. Only couple of westernmost districts is mountainous. Relatively flat relief and influence of many factors form variety of weather conditions of the state.

Southern coastal areas have subtropical climate that shifts to tropical in southernmost districts. Central and northern parts of Texas have continental climate with hot and dry summers and cool winters. Annual amount of precipitation decreases westward from 39-51” (1000-1300 mm) to 8-12” (200-300 mm). Tornadoes and tropical cyclones are common for the state.

Spring in Texas

In spring, the wettest weather is set in the north of the state. Floods are likely to cause flooding, especially in the Ouashita river basin, as well as on the Belaya and Chernaya rivers. The temperature rises rapidly. It is only cool in March at 59-68 °F (+15 °C +20 °C). In May, an almost summer heat sets in, around 74-82 °F (+23 °C +27 °C).

Arkansas is home to many festivals in the spring. These are agricultural areas, but there are many interesting things here. Musicians are attracted by the state capital of Little Rock and the famous Presidential Center. Architecture lovers will love the Crystal Bridge and the Museum of American Art in Bentonville.

Summer in Texas

Summer in Texas is hot and muggy. Average temperature of June reaches 91 °F (+33 °C) at afternoon and drops to pleasant 68 °F (+20 °C) at night. July is the hottest month of a year. Average temperature is 95 °F (+35 °C) but actually it reaches 104 °F (+40 °C) quite often. Tough, evenings are as pleasant as they were in June and plenty of outdoor activities are available. Nevertheless it is better to spend afternoon in conditioned rooms.

August is equally hot, but thunderstorms loose most of their frequency. Also summer is the time of tornadoes and hurricanes. Most of over 100 of them occur in summer with decreasing probability in August.
