Seasons in Tennessee

Tennessee is a state in the South East part of the United Sates. In the eastern part, you can find Appalachian Mountains, in the western – Mississippi river. The views in the Tennessee are really picturesque, that is why it is very popular destination among tourists.

Most of Tennessee has a humid subtropical climate. Only in the east is the influence of oceanic cyclones noticeable. All four seasons are pronounced. The highest elevation in the state is Mount Clingmans Dome, 7217 feet (2025 meters). The rest of the area is predominantly flat. In spring, hurricanes, tornadoes and floods are possible.

Spring in Tennessee

Spring in Tennessee is very pleasant. It is a wonderful season with temperatures ranging from 57-65 °F (+13 +18 °C) in March to 74-81 °F (+23 +27 °C) in May. A slight cold snap may return unexpectedly in March. The highest water level in rivers occurs in April. May is sunny and warm, but storms are possible.

Spring is the best time to see Tennessee in all its glory. Nature blooms. In botanical gardens, national and state parks, you can admire tulips and jasmine. Be sure to visit the Great Smoky Mountains Park Blooming Dogwood Arts Festival.

Summer in Tennessee

Summer temperatures in Tennessee are between 88-95 °F (+31 +35 °C). Sometimes the heat can reach 100 °F (+38 °C), but not higher. In June, there are thunderstorms, hail and strong winds are possible. Rainfall and midday heat decrease in August.

For families, Tennessee offers many water parks. One of the best is Dollywood's Splash Country. Cool off on the water slides at Dollywood or Nashville Shores. In summer, you can safely swim in the rivers and lakes. It is worth admiring the picturesque natural waterfalls. History buffs can visit Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Parks.

Autumn in Tennessee

Thanks to the generous nature, autumn in Tennessee is gorgeous. This is the best time for tourism. It is still hot in September - about 85 °F (+29 °C). In October it gets cooler, but only slightly. It really gets colder only in the second half of November. Temperatures drop to 55-60 °F (+12 +15 °C), with temperatures below 40 °F (+4 °C) possible at night.

A visit to Tennessee would not be complete without Elvis Presley's Graceland. The city of Nashville is considered to be the largest capital of country music. In the east of the state, singer Dolly Parton grew up. Here you can still often hear the sounds of violin and banjo at spring fairs and festivals. The Great Smoky Mountains ridge looks especially attractive in autumnal variegated colors. Tourists love to walk in the local nature park.

Winter in Tennessee

Tennessee gets cold in winter. Average temperatures are 35-52 °F (+2 +11 °C). There are cold snaps up to 30-24 °F (-1 -4 °C). Snow cover falls in December. In the mountains, the snow reaches 2-3 inches. Strong winds and snowstorms intensify the feeling of cold.

In winter, Tennessee offers ice skating, skiing, and ice fishing on rivers and lakes. One of the best ski resorts in the state is located in the Gatlinburg area. In the Smoky Mountains, Ober Gatlinburg amusement park is a great choice for families.
