Rivers and Lakes of New York State

New York state has a lot of different big rivers and small lakes. They are really important for every town, as drinking water supplies, supporting recreation, tourism, fishing, agriculture, manufacturing, generation of power and more. Also they make the sceneries more beautiful and picturesque. There are more than 7,500 lakes, that have a fresh water and over 70,000 of different streams and rivers!

Rivers of New York State

The largest rivers are – the Lawrence river, the Mohawk river, the Hudson river, the Allegheny river and the Genesee Delaware river.

Hudson river

It is regarded as the largest river in New York states, flows into the south Adirondacks mountains. It is playing a big role in developing of state and also takes part in transportation.

This river flows in the Catskill mountains and also plays a role of a separator for them from the Pocono Mountains. This river is good for having a boat trip and taking amazing photos, because the views are very beautiful.

 

The Susuquehanna river

It starts in Otsego and goes than into Atlantic Ocean. Also you can find out, that this river has inflows in the Rochester. They are providing the power of the city!

The Allegheny

This river has only one small loop in the west side of the New York, but despite this, it has amazing sceneries and is very popular place for trips on boats.

Niagara river

It is only 56 km in length. But, in spite of this, it is very popular and well known in the New York state. Also this small river is forming a Niagara Waterfall.

The Saint Lawrence river, that begins in the Ontario Lake, take part in formation the New York’s border with Ontario. Also this river plays a major role in transportation and hydroelectric power supply.

Lakes of New York State

It is more the thousand natural lakes in the New York state. The greatest and biggest are –  the Ontario lake and the Erie lake, the first one is flows near the west border of the state. Lakes are playing a big role in the evolution of the state and also making  the New York’s towns more beautiful!

Champlain Lake

This is one of the deepest and largest lakes and also it is very popular among people. Champlain is a perfect place to have a rest and enjoy the beauty of the nature.

Finger Lakes

They are flowing near the Appalachian Mountains, creating a separation between them. Also it is a best place to have a small boat trip or excursion. You will see breathtaking and unforgettable views. Small advice – go there in the time of sunrise or sunset and you won’t regret.

 

Avalanche Lake

It is surrounded by mountains and take 3.6 hectares of place and was discovered in 1883. If you want to relax and be alone with nature – this lake is a best place for it.

George Lake

You can rent a boat, try kayaking and have a perfect day on this lake, that is why, George is really popular among people. Also you can spend time on the George’s lake beach and enjoy amazing views.

Erie Lake

It takes 505 mi of the territory and has a lot of loops in the Great Lakes region. Along this lake you would be able to see small towns and amazing old ports, that are working even till these days.  Unforgettable memories, good impressions are provided!

The New York state boasts the great amount of rivers and lakes. It is a big plus for the state and also for people who live there and tourists. So go and explore all these amazing places, create your memories and spend time with nature. You will not regret in anyway, because the views there are really amazing and breathtaking.
