Seasons in Jamaica

Jamaica is the pearl of the Antilles which is located in the warm Caribbean Sea. Most of territory of the island is highlands. 70% of the island is the plateau with altitude of 1100 meters (3609 ft.) above the sea. This and features of location and prevailing winds formed climate of the Jamaica.

Weather conditions of Jamaica are tropical with significant precipitation and humidity. Annual amount of precipitation is about 2000 mm (78.7”) to 7000 mm (275.5”) in northwestern part of the island. Average temperature have minor changes through a year and is about 28-33 °C (82-91 °F). Mountainous regions are cooler with range of temperatures between 15-22 °C (59-72 °F). But even highest temperatures are completely bearable due to constant breezes.

March-May in Jamaica

March is one of coolest months in Jamaica. Northern winds bring slight drop of temperature. April is a bit warmer with average daytime temperature about 26 °C (79 °F) also this the last dry month in Jamaica. May marks beginning of rainy season. Frequent showers are accompanied by probability of hurricanes.

In general spring is rather good season to visit Jamaica. Rains or winds don’t spoil beauty of “island of eternal summer”. This time is suitable for any kinds of activities. Seaside vacation may be combined with gastronomic experiences for Jamaican food is diverse and multinational.

June-August in Jamaica

Summer is the hottest time of a year in Jamaica. At June temperature reaches 33 °C (91 °F) from time to time. Occasional thunderstorms bring additional magnificence to the weather of Jamaica. July is dryer than and as hot as June. It is the heist of tourists’ season.

August continues summer tendencies of weather. Rains are fewer and winds are calm. Water of the Caribbean Sea warms up to almost 30 °C (86 °F). This is perfect time to literally any activities on the island. Even simple wallowing on picturesque tropical beaches will be great experience.

September-November in Jamaica

At September and October there is second peak of precipitation. Temperature stays in same range but probability of hurricanes returns. Heavy and fast tropical showers may create obstacles for sightseeing and other types of cultural activities but swimming under the rain is one of special experiences.

At November showers are gone but temperature still as pleasant as it was before. Clouds are gone too so there’s significant risk of sunburns. Going to visit Jamaica at November different kinds of sun protection are necessary. So autumn is as good to visit Jamaica as any other season.

December-February in Jamaica

North winds start to blow in Jamaica at winter. They bring slight drop of temperatures on one hand but on the other finally drive away rain clouds. Winter in Jamaica is dry season. January and February are coldest months in Jamaica. Of course to the extent of applicability of term “cold” to Jamaica.

At February the island is flooded by tourists for there is Day of Bob Marley. All fans and reggae lovers of the world are travel to Jamaica to tribute memory of great artist. Other occasions such as Christmas or New Year celebration attract people to Jamaica too but in lesser scale.
